Digital X-ray

What is an X-ray?

An X-ray produces 2-dimensional images of your bones and body. It is a quick and easy test that uses very low radiation doses.

Why would my Doctor refer me for an X-ray?

An X-ray is most commonly referred for the use of checking broken bones, but are also used for other diagnostic purposes such as checking for pneumonia, digestive problems or joint pain.

Are there risks from having an X-ray?

The amount of radiation you get from an x-ray is very small and is considered safe. Children are more sensitive to radiation than adults, and while the levels they receive during an x-ray are safe, we do try to limit the amount of radiation they receive.

X-rays are not recommended for pregnant women due to the radiation exposure to the fetus.

Preparation for an X-ray

X-rays are standard procedures that don’t require any kind of special preparation, other than removing any metal from the body, such as jewellery, piercings and clothes with zippers and buttons.
